Blais Questions Jellett’s Integrity on Voting Record

On Sunday August 29th during CTV Ottawa’s Focus segment, Councillor Rob Jellett said he voted against the roundabout in Orléans. Not surprising to residents this is not entirely true. On Thursday, January 28, 2010, Councillor Jellett clearly voted for this roundabout.

“Councillor Jellett should stop playing loose with the truth and admit to voters that he did support the roundabout,” says Cumberland Ward candidate Stephen Blais. “Leadership is not voting to waste taxpayers money and deflecting accountability by telling the media half-truths.”

MOTION NO. 82/23:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that that the “Functional Design” funding be allocated to the BIA streetscaping initiatives and that funding for intersection improvements for Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard/St. Joseph Boulevard be advanced to the current roundabout project. “This is not the first time Councillor Rob Jellett has flip-flopped on a vote that wasted taxpayers' money," adds Blais. "Councillor Jellett's lack of accountability regarding his voting record is appalling to the taxpayers of Cumberland Ward."

On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Councillor Jellett voted for the $20,000 consultant’s report to look into the city’s roof top sign bylaw stemming from a plastic cow on the roof of Cheddar Etcetera in Orléans. The very next day, on Thursday, March 25, 2010, Councillor Jellett was on CFRA’s municipal panel and when asked by host, Rob Snow if spending $20,000 on a consultant report studying cows on roof tops was a waste of money, Councillor Jellett replied yes.

"Councillor Jellett's record clearly demonstrates why change is needed in Cumberland Ward," adds Blais. "The voters have an opportunity to turn the page on this kind representation and choose change they can trust."

On February 10, 2010, Councillor Rob Jellett voted to study the living wage. On February 19, 2010, Councillor Rob Jellett was quoted in the EMC News (Orléans) about the living wage: “This is not our responsibility. It is the provincial government’s role. I don’t think we should proceed further.”
