Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais supports OC Transpo instituting a separate pass for public transit riders, who reside outside of Ottawa's city limits.
“People living outside of our city pay zero Ottawa property taxes or the transit levy that funds our system,” says Blais. “It's time that these people begin paying their fair share of the costs associated with their use of OC Transpo.”
Since 2004, Cumberland Councillor Rob Jellett and City Council have increased express transit passes by 50%, while inflation has been 11.24%.
“By creating an Out-of-Ottawa pass, we can inject more revenue into our transit system without burdening Ottawa taxpayers,” adds Blais. “It’s time we give transit riders change from skyrocketing fare increases.”
Currently, OC Transpo has a system for classifying passes: Adult Regular Pass, Adult Express Pass, Adult Rural Pass, Adult Regular Annual Pass, Adult Express Annual Pass, Student Regular Pass / month, Student Express Pass / month, Student Regular Semester Pass, Student Express Semester Pass, Student Rural Pass / month, Student Regular Annual Pass, Student Express Annual Pass, Senior Pass / month, Senior Annual Pass, Community Pass, DayPass, ECOPASS Adult Regular / month, ECOPASS Adult Express / month and ECOPASS Adult Rural Express / month.
