Time for a change at city hall

images

Dear editor,

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the East Ottawa Star on Oct. 16 – a full-page ad called Rapid Transit Progress Report, featuring the city's light rail plan that won't service Orléans for 30 years.

At the top of the ad was Alex Cullen's photo, his credentials as the person responsible for this foolhardy plan and his office contact information.

I don't remember Mr. Cullen promoting himself in Orléans before he was running for mayor. This is clearly political advertising with public money and it is totally unacceptable.

As a resident of the City of Ottawa my taxes are going up, my water bill is going up, fees for recreational activities are going up and bus passes are now the highest in the country. Are you seeing an improvement in services from the city? I'm not!

Despite all of these charges going up, the city has money to buy a full-page ad featuring one of the candidates for mayor in next year's election.

There is a better way of doing things.

Instead of spoon feeding me your spin with political advertising paid for with tax dollars, improve my services or stop charging me so much.

Clearly it is time for a change at city hall.

Stephen Blais
