I have always been against this unwanted and unneeded roundabout in our community, which is why I have lobbied to have this project killed.

Despite the East End being in desperate need of major infrastructure investments, this roundabout is nothing but a safety hazard for our residents that will cost us millions of dollars. To make matters worse, City Hall will now spend nearly almost a million dollars more than planned prior to construction even commencing.

Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais would like the City of Ottawa to partner with local companies to generate new revenue streams by leasing City-owned rooftops for the production of renewable energy using solar panels.

“By partnering with local businesses to go solar, we will be able to generate new revenues for the City,” says Blais. “New revenues generated by these opportunities can be used to reinvest in these City-owned facilities.”

Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais believes it’s time City Council created an Ottawa Transit Commission, similar to other Canadian cities, to ensure our city embarks on a long-term vision that serves residents by implementing an affordable and accessible model for public transit.

“It’s time for the City of Ottawa to move forward with an Ottawa Transit Commission,” says Blais. “A transit commission with representatives with business and transit experience will allow residents to benefit from new ideas and experience that will ultimately lead to improvements to our public transit system.”

Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais supports property tax increases at the rate of inflation. To this end, if elected to city council, Candidate Blais will voluntarily accept a 10% pay cut to his salary should he break his promise.

“After years of consecutive tax increases more than doubling the rate of inflation, we owe it to residents to get City spending under control,” says Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais. “City council must stop thinking of Ottawa taxpayers as ATM’s with unlimited amounts of money at their disposal.”

The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) has recommended that Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic School in Orléans be included to offer full-day kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year.

Stephen Blais, OCSB trustee for Orléans-Cumberland, had introduced the motion at a recent board meeting.

"This is exciting news for families in Orléans-Cumberland," said Blais of the potential chance of having full-day kindergarten at the school, located in Queenswood Heights. "This will help families avoid some expensive childcare costs and will lead to greater student success."
