I have always been against this unwanted and unneeded roundabout in our community, which is why I have lobbied to have this project killed.

Despite the East End being in desperate need of major infrastructure investments, this roundabout is nothing but a safety hazard for our residents that will cost us millions of dollars. To make matters worse, City Hall will now spend nearly almost a million dollars more than planned prior to construction even commencing.

A busy Orleans intersection is gearing up for what some call a traffic makeover -- a two-lane roundabout. Others say it's an unneccessary facelift.

Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais is questioning why Councillor Jellett is playing politics with the Blackburn By-pass Extension. This announcement will undoubtedly become part of Rob Jellett's re-election brochure.

“I’m not surprised Councillor Jellett has announced a plan for the Blackburn Bypass days before he is rumoured to announce his re-election campaign,” says Blais. “Councillor Jellett is renowned for making campaign promises during election years only to flip-flop later.”

Beacon Hill-Cyrville Candidate Tim Tierney and Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais are calling on City Council to shelve the tunnel portion of the City's current LRT plan until more money can be secured from upper levels of government in favour of building LRT links to Orleans, Kanata, Barrhaven and Riverside South.

Despite City Hall’s refusal to partner with the Ontario government and Councillor Rob Jellett’s flip-flop on safety improvements to HWY 174, Cumberland Ward Candidate Stephen Blais is asking City Hall to come together with the provincial government for the betterment of East End commuters.

“I will be that East End champion that fights to get our fair share of investments to improve the safety and widening of HWY 174,” says Blais. “It’s clear that City Hall is once again not interested in fixing HWY 174 for our residents.”

Cumberland Candidate Stephen Blais has called on Orléans MP, Royal Galipeau to scrap the $2.5 million federal funding for the St Joseph/Jeanne d'Arc Roundabout.

“The east end is in desperate needs of major infrastructure investments, but this roundabout is nothing but a safety hazard for our residents,” says Blais. “This $2.5 million can be invested in community projects that will improve our quality of life rather than waste taxpayers money with dangerous consequences.”

Two east-end elementary schools could be offering full-day kindergarten when school starts in September.

Both Our Lady of Wisdom and Convent Glen Public have been chosen to host all-day learning for youngsters in what will be a phase-in of all-day kindergarten across the province. All schools will be expected to offer full-day kindergarten by Sept. 2015.

Students at St. Matthew High School could see six portables replaced with an addition to the building as early as Sept. 2010 while plans are also in place to alleviate overcrowding at Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School.

Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) trustees passed a motion on June 23 directing staff to fast-track infrastructure projects for both St. Matthew and Lester B. Pearson high schools. The decision comes after the province gave the board $5.5 million under the new Energy Efficient Funding Approvals to upgrade accommodations at both east-end high schools.

Two east end high schools could have new additions as early as next fall.

At an Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) meeting on June 23, trustees recommended that board staff hire an architect to come up with designs for the additions at St. Matthew Catholic High School and Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School.
